Der Bär writes history.

Then as now.

It all began back in 1953. The tourism pioneer Hans-Joachim Stickrodt from Hanover transported a group of German tourists with the very first Hummel Reisen bus to Ellmau and thereby established the groundwork for tourism in this little alpine village. Only five years on, he built the “Haus Tyrol” on the Kirchbichl, including five rooms and running water – an exceptional feature at the time.

In 1974, Mr and Mrs Windisch took over the management of the hotel and ran it as their own business until 1992. Seven years later, the Windisch family and their son Andreas acquired the Hotel Bär from Mr Stickrodt. In 2002, Ursula Windisch also became part of the management team.

By 2012, the 49 rooms had been brought up to date in various construction phases. In the same year, Andreas Windisch took over the management of the hotel. In 2017, he and his wife Ursula fulfilled their dream and carefully remodelled the hotel on a grand scale. The 62 rooms and suites blend into a harmonious whole. The new 20-metre infinity pool makes the view of the Wilder Kaiser a special experience. In 2022, a 30-meter-long summer pool and pool bar were added.

What's planned next? It's best to ask the bear. He's always coming up with new ideas as he roams through his territory. Stay tuned!
